Step 2.1 – “Free” Websites
I’m sure you have seen advertising for this or that online program that will give you a free website and this thing and the other thing along with the kitchen sink, all of which you are going to pay for dearly… every month!
What you get, 99+ times out of 100, is a so-called corporate website that has your name and affiliate ID pasted in so that you get the credit when someone signs up. The plus side is – in theory – that the big boys who designed the site are real cracks at seo and website design and advertising and and and. The truth of the matter is “yes, they really are cracks at seo and website design and theory” BUT they (or their bosses) are so worried that they will say something wrong or show something wrong because of legal constraints, that the site loses all its seo punch before your name ever goes on it. Don’t misunderstand me, there are some good affiliate websites out there, but the good programs get filled up quickly, and the internal competition within the organisation gets fierce.

I like the product, and I like the corporate website – I think it’s professional, interesting, and attractive – I even look at it voluntarily from time to time, particularly for the videos – but there are tens of thousands of copies out there! If this kind of website is what you want, don’t take the time and effort to build it yourself – just find a program you like and join up! You can even get e-business sites and online mini-malls with all the necessary pieces already built in, like some online buyers clubs (I signed up for one of these because [1] it’s free to join, [2] to please a friend who’s a member, and [3] I even get a commission on my own purchases). There’s another (low level) version of this type of thing, which is more or less just a billboard that you can put your name on for free. It doesn’t bring any income unless you promote very heavily, and even then, almost nothing – here’s an example (if you click on the link, you will discover that there is a big red box at the top of the display – that’s the owners’ delicate way of persuading free members (like me) to “go pro” and pay them $29,95 per month. I think it’s BS (please pardon my language) because – in theory – I start with the free version and then, when I have some income, I can afford to go up to the pro version. With that big red thing on top, all I get is questions: “What is that big red thing on top? Did I do something wrong? I don’t like that, it bothers me, I’m gonna go to Aunt Jenny’s storefront instead – there’s no big red thing there” and no sales here).
